ARTCHAOS · SINCE THE FIRST SPILL

WE MADE A PLACE
WHERE ANYONE CAN MAKE SOMETHING.

A studio, a motor, a lot of paint, and a rule that nobody has to be good at this.

A finished spin canvas, still wet, in pink, yellow and greenNobody has to be good at this.

What you can make.

Experiences

THE IDEA IS SMALL

Most people stopped making things at about eleven, when somebody graded it. The drawing got a mark, the mark was not great, and that was that for the next twenty years. ArtChaos exists to get around that, and the way around it is a machine that produces something good no matter who is operating it.

How it works

Do less thinking.
Make more.

01

Arrive

We are at 31 Saint-Viateur Est, in Mile End. Street parking is on Saint-Viateur and the streets around it: some days plenty, some days less. By metro, get off at Laurier and walk fifteen minutes, or take the 55 bus along Saint-Laurent and get off at Saint-Viateur. At the door you sign a short disclaimer, then we hand you an apron and gloves, because there is always a chance of paint on you. Your Art Master walks you to your station.

02

Practice

Before anything that counts, a practice canvas. Your Art Master shows the machine, the bottles and the two or three movements that do most of the work, then you try them yourself. Nothing important can go wrong here, and most people find their colours in these five minutes.

03

Create

Then the real one. You choose the colours, you decide when to pour and when to spin, and the table does the rest. If you want, we take photos while you work and with the finished piece, and email them to you privately. Nothing is published.

04

Stay

The wet canvas goes into the drying oven for fifteen to twenty minutes. That is the moment for the bar on the other side of the room: a cocktail, a beer, something without alcohol, a snack, and an opinion about everyone else’s canvas.

05

Leave

Once it is dry, the canvas goes into a bag and home with you, along with the hour you spent making it. Next time, try a different technique: nobody has made the same canvas twice.

Experiences

WHY IT WORKS ON PEOPLE WHO “CAN’T DRAW”

Because drawing is not involved. There is no line to get wrong, no proportions, no blank page. There is a spinning surface and gravity, and both of them are better at this than you are. You choose colour, speed and when to stop — three decisions, all of them impossible to fail.

I had never painted anything before and this was an amazing experience and lots of fun. I definitely recommend it.

There’s something genuinely magical about watching the colors fly and seeing your one-of-a-kind canvas come to life. No artistic talent required — just pure joy and a little creativity!

Le spin art était une activité vraiment réussie pour l’anniversaire de mon filleul. Tout le monde a adoré, autant les enfants que les adultes.

Good questions

Before you book.

The things people ask us most, answered quickly.

Is this an art workshop?

Yes, a one-hour one: an Art Master shows the technique, you practise on a first canvas, then paint the one you keep. It is a creative activity for adults, children from five, couples and groups, with no experience needed and everything supplied.

What is ArtChaos?

ArtChaos is a social art studio and creative event venue in Montréal. Guests make Spin Art canvases, Fluid Toys and seasonal pour-art projects with simple guidance from our team.

What is Spin Art?

Spin Art uses a motorized platform that rotates a canvas. You apply paint while changing the speed and position, creating circular movement, layers and patterns that are difficult to reproduce twice.

What are Fluid Toys?

Fluid Toys are collectible figures decorated by pouring selected paint colours and optional glitter over the surface. Each pour creates a different pattern.

Do I need art experience?

No. There is no drawing requirement and no traditional painting class. The team explains the equipment and technique, then you choose the colours and make the piece your own.

How long does an experience take?

A regular session runs 60 minutes. Larger private group events can run for two to three hours.

What is included?

Paint, tools, protective equipment, use of the studio equipment, basic guidance and your finished creation are included unless a specific package states otherwise.
